JOOLA Scorpeus Pro V 16mm Review: The Forgiving One

The Scorpeus is the wide-body of the Pro V family and, by JOOLA's own description and the reviewers' agreement, the most forgiving paddle in the lineup. The shorter, wider profile trades the Perseus's reach for stability, which is the trade a doubles player at the kitchen line usually wants: more margin on blocks, resets, and counters when contact isn't clean.

The KineticFrame matters more here than anywhere else in the range. Because the frame flexes to absorb and redirect energy rather than simply rebounding it, reviewers single the Scorpeus out for soft hands in the transition zone — the resets and dinks where a livelier paddle punishes you. It's the signature shape of Anna Bright and Collin Johns, and JOOLA lists Anna's 16mm at 8.2 oz on a 4.125 in grip with Collin's at the same weight on a wider 4.25 in.

What you give up is put-away power. This is the control end of a control-leaning generation, and if you finish points with pace from the baseline the Perseus or Hyperion shapes suit you better. The $299.95 price and the widely-repeated advice that the previous generation is better value both apply here too.
