How We Review Paddles

The short version

We don't play-test paddles. Every review synthesizes published third-party reviews and manufacturer specs, is drafted with AI, and says so. Scores reflect where those sources agree. Our build refuses to publish a new scored review whose sources aren't logged.

What we don't do

We own no test rigs, radar, or swing-weight scales, and we never claim to have played a paddle. If a review ever reads as a first-hand test, that's a bug — tell us.

How a review is made

  1. Gather sources.Published expert reviews and breakdowns, the manufacturer's specs, and owner feedback where it's substantial.
  2. Log them. Each scored paddle gets an entry in our source log: what each source said about each dimension, where they agree, and where they don't.
  3. Draft with AI. An AI analyst persona, tuned to a skill level, drafts the verdict from the logged sources only. The rubric and the source standards are set by a human.
  4. Publish with labels.Every review carries an AI-synthesis disclosure. Specs we haven't confirmed against the manufacturer get a “specs pending” notice (3 right now).

What the scores mean

Power, control, spin, feel and durability are scored 0–5 as the consensus of the logged sources. The overall rating is that consensus too. Where sources are thin or disagree, the source log says so.

Value is computed, not sourced: the rating adjusted for price against a $150 reference (rating × 150 ÷ price, capped at 5).

The rule our build enforces

A test in our build pipeline fails if any scored paddle has no entry in the source log. A new scored review can't ship without its sources; it has to ship as an unscored overview instead.

All 20 scored paddle reviews — and every scored ball and grip — have logged sources.

Unscored overviews

When we can't find at least two independent published reviews of a product, we don't score it. 7paddles are unscored overviews right now: they summarize the coverage that exists plus manufacturer specs, carry an “Unscored” label, and never appear in our rankings. When we back-filled our source log in September 2026, seven paddles that had been scored lost their scores this way — we'd rather show no number than a number the sources don't support.

Partner overviews

8pages are partner overviews: products from brands we have a commercial relationship with. They're built from manufacturer specs, carry a visible Partner label, have no score, and never appear in our rankings. Money can buy a labelled page. It can never buy a score or a ranking position.

How we make money, and which store we link first

We earn affiliate commissions when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. On each review, links to the exact product page come first: brand-direct stores we partner with, then other retailers' product pages, then Amazon. General store links come last and are labelled “Shop at…”. Our affiliate relationships affect which store we link to first. They never affect a score.

Our kits and paddle database are built from the same scores. Kit paddles are simply the top-rated paddles at each skill level.
